      Participants of excursion will be transported by bus (45 places) from hotel "Cosmos" up to the Moscow State University and back.
      Departure time of the bus from hotel "Cosmos" at 9:00 on August, 06, 07, 08, 2007. Gathering of participants of technical excursion at 8:50 at a hall of hotel "Cosmos" near the registration desk. The accompanying person (volunteer) will have the budge «Technical excursion to the Moscow State University».
      During technical excursion you will visit the "Physical geography" museum, department and laboratories of cartography.

      During technical excursion you will visit a Museum of geodesy and cartography history, «Gold rooms of university».

      During technical excursion you will visit an Exhibition of unique historical maps of Russia.

“THE MASTERPIECES OF THE RUSSIAN CARTOGRAPHY”

      The exhibition “The Masterpieces of the Russian Cartography” for the participants of the International Cartographic Conference will open from the 4^th till 11^th of August 2007 in Moscow, in the Exhibition Hall of the Russian State Library. Maps of the period since the appearance of Russian cartography up to the beginning of the 20^th century are displayed at the exhibition. One hundred and five printed and manuscript maps and atlases show the History of the Russian Cartography. The exposition is based on the cartographical materials from the map collections of two Russian National Libraries - the Russian State Library in Moscow and the National Library of Russia in St. Petersburg.
      The mission of the both National Libraries is to collect, preserve and provide access to the universal collection of documents that reflect human knowledge and are related primarily to Russia and its national interests.
      The Cartographic Collection of the National Library of Russia is one of the biggest in Russia. A lot of unique cartographic materials, Russian and foreign, are kept there. The Collection of Maps of the Russian State Library is also large and valuable and comprised of more then 250 thousand items, among them are Russian and foreign maps, plans, charts, atlases.
      The Russian State Library's holdings are a combination of large independent collections. RSL has specialized collections of maps, musical scores, manuscripts, rare books, printed art, dissertations, newspapers, and other types of publications and documents.
